Can I Really Make My Computer Faster? - Some Tips You Should Know

Many have sat with their computer waiting for a page to load or a program to open. Six seconds go by and it feels like an eternity. We live in the age where we need everything yesterday. I don't know if you're like me but when I click on something I want it and I want it now. I didn't spend all this money on a nice computer only to sit and wait every time I click on something.

What I've learned after much research and many conversations with many computer experts who work on computers for a living is that speeding up your computer can be easier than you think. The disappointing news is that it's not just as simple as a faster internet connection as many are lead to believe. The cable company never ceases to stop their television commercials from running about nothing short of lighting speeds if you get their high speed internet.

The reality is it boils down to four main parts. I like think of them as wheels of a car. If you have a wrong size wheel or a deflated wheel your car just isn't going to run optimally. This small adjustment can make a huge difference in your day to day speed of operations. These four areas are the amount of RAM, processor speed, hard drive speed or RPM's and finally internet connection speed. Of these four areas the computer will only run as fast as its weakest link. For example you can have the best computer out there but if you're running a dial up internet connection you're never going to get optimal functionality.

Other tips would include never having more than 10 icons on your desktop. If you do by chance, create a folder and drag all major icons in it that you're not using. Next make sure your hard drive is less than fifty percent full. If you have a ton of pictures and songs consider purchasing an external hard drive to store all your space gobbling files. This will help quite a bit. The next lesson I learned is the more RAM the better. Ram can usually be purchased cheaply but the experts suggest no less than 2 gigs as a minimum amount. Finally make sure you run disk cleanup at least once a month to clear out all the junk files that you've accumulated that are bogging your system down.
